Health and Wellbeing
Our health and well-being programme will from time to time focus of health issues and conditions that disproportionately affect Africans and Black Ethnic Minority groups in the UK. These include HIV/AIDS, Cardiovascular diseases (stoke, heart disease, hypertension), mental health, obesity, cancer, Corona Virus (COVID-19).
HIV Outreach Service
HIV Outreach service in the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering. Dissemination of HIV and STI prevention information, engaging with GP surgeries, Pharmacies and mobilising people for HIV & STI testing.
Let’s Get PrEP
This project started in December 2020 and is funded through the support of The National Lottery Community Fund. The aim of the project is to increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of HIV prevention, especially methods (tools) like Pre – Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
HIV Prevention
Over the last decade, there has been a steep decline in new HIV diagnoses among BME groups in the UK.
However BME men and women are still diagnosed late, especially among those who reside outside London, where HIV stigma affects uptake of HIV testing.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD)
CVD is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 17.9 million deaths each year, 31% of all global deaths. In England 1 in 4 deaths which equates to 1 death every 4 minutes.

We work in partnership with Inkind Direct to distribute essential products to people in need to keep them clean, safe and well.
Get Connected Project
This project aims to reduce social loneliness, social exclusion, digital exclusion and the negative impact COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of refugee families resident in the London boroughs of Barking and Havering. Some of them are lonely due to lockdown restrictions or socially excluded due to lack skills, digital devices, or confidence to safely connect with other people and safely navigate the digital world.
School Equipment Programme
In pursuance of its aim to advance education MSDC works with The LabAid Foundation to enrich the teaching of science in schools, by providing general and multi-purpose science lab equipment donations to schools in developing countries. A number of schools in Uganda have benefitted from this programme.
Research
We engage in research on various matters especially in as much as they concern Black and Ethnic Minority Communities. In pursuit of this commitment as part of the National HIV prevention programme in collaboration with African HIV Policy Network) we produced a handbook called DOING IT WELL: A good practice guide for choosing and implementing community based HIV prevention interventions with African communities in England.
