Get Connected Project
The project aimed to reduce loneliness, social and digital exclusion, and the negative impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of refugee families resident in the London boroughs of Barking and Havering. Some of them were lonely due to lockdown restrictions and were socially excluded due to lack of digital skills and devices, while some lacked the confidence to safely connect with other people and safely navigate the digital world.
Through this project we provided digital skills training and access to digital devices to help people build connections across their communities, learn new skills, and gain confidence to safely connect with other people, access school education resources from home and navigate the digital world.
This Project was funded by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sports and The National Lottery Fund.
Feedback from beneficiaries
“Thank you for the tablet, I am now able to do my school work and play with my friends”. (Emma- Beneficiary)
“When I got the tablet, I was invited to attend virtual community conversations on health matters including COVID-19. This gave me a chance to listen and talk to other people about what is happening in the community.” (Elderly lady – Beneficiary)
“Thank you very much for the Lenovo tablet, and digital skills training. It has helped me support my children do homework, and google classes. Connecting with teachers and other classmates is very easy now. Without the tablet, education and social life for the children was not easy. Lockdown made it harder for education”. (Parent)
